The Pros of Choosing a US Visitor Travel Insurance

The United States is distinguished from many other countries by a particularly developed visitor travel insurance system. American’s themselves expect certain benefits in an individual health insurance policy and the companies typically offer this.

Most companies that offer visitors health insurance policies in the U.S. are long-serving. Many are ranked by a letter system that is primarily based upon their financial viability. Foreign insurance companies are not typically ranked in this manner and their length of incorporation is difficult to determine. Most American providers lack familiarity with foreign insurance policies.

The visitors health insurance policies offered by most American companies are typically connected with a PPO network. PPO is an acronym that stands for “preferred provider organization”. It represents a group of hospitals and private-practice doctors that take the insurance’s payment and bill that provider directly. Foreign insurance companies, due to less stringent regulations, often represent their policies as being universally-accepted, though this may not be the case; a significant risk with foreign insurers.

Most American doctor’s offices request an insurance card upon a patient being admitted. Visitor Insurance companies will generally provide this though foreign policies will not necessarily provide it. Without this card, many American doctors will refuse the policy; not wanting to bill overseas.

American insurance companies typically allow their clients to choose between a fixed-rate and a comprehensive plan, depending on their particular needs. Some foreign policies have strict age limitations, not allowing insurance for those over 70 years in age. Many foreign nations also lack the regulation to which US companies are subject.

When billing disputes arise and insurance companies fail to meet their financial obligations to doctors or patients, the US system allows for the filing of grievances to regulators. Many countries lack this regulatory recourse.

The attractiveness of insurance for visitors should not be weighed solely by price. Though it is a consideration, but the better levels of service provided by U.S. providers makes it a case of getting what one paid for.

It is vital to have visitors health insurance for visiting the U.S.. The process of comparing foreign or US insurance providers should be undertaken carefully. U.S. based insurance companies guarantee payment and offer a high level of service. Foreign policy writers seldom offer the same level of guaranteed service.

San Sebastian for the Day

Not very far from your condo in Puerto Vallarta lies a very different world, a small and charming Mexican town that will take you back to the days before cell phones and satellite television ruled the day. In fact, a trip to San Sebastian will take you back to a time when the community?s the central square, or plaza, was the focal point for social life. That isn?t to say that life in San Sebastian has always been calm. Quite the opposite, in fact: in its heyday, miners pulled gold and silver from surrounding mines, and San Sebastian served as the provincial capital and home to tens of thousands of people.

One look at the architecture and the town?s layout will tell you that this lovely place is not very different today than it was 100 or 200 years ago. A visit to San Sebastian will appeal to everyone who wants to spend a pleasant day exploring the streets of this now-quiet village high in the Sierra Madre. No extreme sports or wild clubs here, just fresh air and nice people.

Make no mistake ? you will find things to do in town. Shop for silver and other local items. If you?re visiting in spring, don?t miss the San Sebastian Silver Festival, which takes place over three days in May. Visit the La Quinta coffee farm, a fifth-generation family enterprise which produces organic coffee, takes guests on short tours and serves coffee and fruit rolls from a stand on the road. Enjoy a good meal. The restaurant Real y Minas comes highly recommended. And if you love to sit on the patio with a cup of coffee and watch the world go slowly by, stop at Los Arcos for breakfast.

You can reach San Sebastian by car; simply follow the airport road toward the university; when you reach the Y in the road, take the route to Mascota until you reach Estancia where you?ll see the sign to San Sebastian. If this sounds too complicated, pay a few pesos and catch a bus to the fork in the road and catch a ride to the small mountain town. Or take a tour with one of Puerto Vallarta?s vendors. Either way, you?ll return to your condo rental in Puerto Vallarta satisfied with a day well spent.

Rice: US, Mexico to discuss drugs, world issues

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) ? Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she hopes to discuss not just drug trafficking but a host of world issues with Mexican Foreign Relations Secretary Patricia Espinosa in meetings in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Rice says Mexico’s newly won seat on the United Nations Security Council makes it likely that more than just bilateral concerns will be discussed.

Rice arrived at the Pacific Coast resort on Wednesday for a two-day visit to Mexico, and said she hopes to discuss global cooperation with Mexico.

The talks are also expected to touch on the violent drug cartel turf battles that have hit Mexico in recent years, and the role played by weapons smuggled into Mexico from the United States.
