The History of Puerto Vallarta Dates Back 26 Centuries

Best Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is one destination that will stick with you for the remainder of your life. While other beach destinations in Mexico were all but built around tourism and have essentially become little American enclaves over the years. Puerto Vallarta has retained its cultural roots and is still just as much an authentic port town as it was a century ago. It’s a place that is bursting with history, culture, and soul. As such, we firmly believe it’s one of the top vacation destinations in Mexico.

Here, the mountains, jungles, and sea all come together in a stunningly beautiful way. Puerto Vallarta’s downtown district, Zona Romantica, with its cobblestone streets and charming shops, will make you feel like you just stepped back in time to a period when life was simpler and slower yet somehow happier.

In almost every single way, Puerto Vallarta is simply stunning. It’s also got plenty of heart, with endless things to do and see at just about any time of the day. It’s a rare example of a city where tourists, ex-pats, and locals all live together harmoniously. The combination of all of those cultural influences is nothing short of remarkable.

If you’re looking to escape the cold of winter, there’s no better place than Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This beautiful area has warm weather year-round and an interesting culture to boot. Watch this video in full to learn more about some of the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta so you can start planning your trip!

Best Puerto Vallarta Food (2022) | Best Street Food & Restaurants in Puerto Vallarta

In this video, I walk you through a list of some of the best food in Puerto Vallarta and you don’t even have to waste your time watching me eat it or listening to me ramble on. I simply give you the name of the restaurant or street food stand so that you can look it up or save it to your Google maps and then show you what to eat there and keep it moving. By the end of this video, you will have at least 20 delicious places bookmarked for your trip as well as some cool things to do in Puerto Vallarta and an amazing place to stay.

As always, my goal when I travel to any city in the world is to find the very best food I can. Typically, that means avoiding touristy areas, but some of the best food in Puerto Vallarta can be found right in the heart of Zona Romantica such as the birria tacos from Birria Robles and the tongue and cheek tacos from Tacos de Cabeza el Chulo, just to name a couple of my personal favorites. (Many more are named in the video.)

However, we also took the time to spread out of Zona Romantica and venture into some of the other neighborhoods where locals live (as I like to do) such as 5 de Diciembre and Pitillal to check out some other spots that came highly recommended to us by some friends of ours who live in Puerto Vallarta and know what they’re talking about when it comes to authentic and delicious Mexican food.

We only had five days to explore, so we hit as many as we could in that time and I know I missed a ton of good places, so please be sure to leave a comment and let me know where I should go next time I visit if you like the kinds of food I’m showing in this video!

To see all of the places I bookmarked here in this video, check out the highlight story on my Instagram where I tagged every location: https://www.instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3OTAzNTM2MTY1NzY2MjAx?story_media_id=2486788546960306732&igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Where is Las Pilitas, why is there a seahorse statue there and more: https://www.puertovallarta.net/what_to_do/sculptures-the-seahorse-las-pilitas

“El Niño Sobre el Caballo de Mar,” or “The Boy on the Seahorse,” was first erected in Las Pilitas and is now commonly referred to as The Seahorse Statue “El Caballito de Mar.” Rafael Zamarripa created it and installed it in 1968. A replica is the first statue of many along Puerto Vallarta’s coastal promenade and was put in place in 1976, after a storm carried the original one at Las Pilitas away into the sea, and the town requested a larger duplicate. This one was placed in a more secure spot on the Malecon. Fortunately, the actual statue was found and returned to Las Pilitas (it was swept away again during Hurricane Kenna in 2002 and recovered once again).

Today, it’s still there for you to see. As you can see, the concrete block has been strengthened with iron bars, and the sculpture itself is also reinforced. You’ll find it before getting to El Púlpito, the small hill at the southern end of Los Muertos Beach. Las Pilitas themselves are just a series of boulders on the beach. It’s “mucho más interesante” now that the sculpture has been added.
