Bureaucracy
If you arrive to open a bank account in Mexico, then expect that effort to become an all-day ordeal. That’s assuming that you arrive with all of the correct documents, visas, and everything else that the organization requires to give you what you need.

Slow delivery
If the delivery term is one week, forget about it. Your item will be delivered in two weeks.

Renting can be tricky
Mexico has plenty of rental flats available. However, it’s important to know Spanish to receive a better price. If possible, invite a Mexican friend to join the negotiation to ensure there’s no miscommunication. If you want to rent a room in a shared space, it’s a fairly simple process. Paying a deposit of a month’s rent is normal, and sometimes there’s only a simple contract involved between you and the apartment’s owner. If you want your own apartment, the bureaucracy can be a bit challenging.

Banking system
In Banks everything has to be done in person – to set up online banking you have to go in person, to transfer money you have to go in person (if you haven’t already set up your online banking privileges, that is, and you’ll need the CLABE code of whoever you’re transferring money to). Basically, it’s all just more time spent waiting to do things that could all be sorted online.

Dirty and a lot of trash
One thing I don’t like about living in Mexico is the way trash is dealt with. In many places there are not any dumpsters and sometimes you can see a lot of trash on the streets.

In many of the non-urban areas, it is common for Mexicans to burn their fields prior to the rainy season. If you happen to be downwind, you are treated to the aroma and potentially unpleasant health issues associated with breathing smoke.

The plumbing
In lots of places in Mexico (but not all), you shouldn’t flush the toilet paper down the toilet. In these places, you can either place your toilet paper in the trash can (like most Mexicans do) or you can use a portable bidet.

Uneven sidewalks or no sidewalks
Many sidewalks in Mexico were poorly designed, if they exist at all. If you’re not looking while you walk, you could very easily get hurt with the number of holes on sidewalks all over the country. And you should watch where you walk regardless because some sidewalks are very uneven, so you could easily trip. In Mexico it’s also not uncommon to have a sidewalk on a busy street that turns into no sidewalk at all on the busiest part.

You cannot drink the tap water
In fact, most people buy water by the gallons in a jug called a “garrafon” which can be refilled and is used for cooking and drinking. While some people do drink the tap water without boiling it off, filtering it or generally faffing with it first, it’s not really advisable.
