These are just a few of the countless treasures that make the Malecon of Puerto Vallarta one of the necessary places to visit during your vacation in Puerto Vallarta. It’s the place to explore, snap some pictures, try the food, and fall in love with downtown Puerto Vallarta.

As the city grew in the 1900s, the Malecon became the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta, right in front of the central church, which is surrounded by small shops and family-run businesses. While it started as the a short boardwalk on the side of the road along the ocean, it’s become a major pathway and the best place to walk in Puerto Vallarta to see the traditional architecture and mingle with locals who enjoy the festive air of the Malecon. Today, it’s always cited by guidebooks and locals as one of the places to visit during your vacation in Puerto Vallarta.

El 25 de octubre de 2002, es una fecha que Puerto Vallarta no ha olvidado. Pues el Huracán Kenna llegó para borrar la leyenda, que le gustaba creer a la gente local, el mito de que la ciudad siempre estaría protegida de los efectos devastadores de los huracanes por estar ubicado en una pequeña bahía.
El huracán Kenna fue un ciclón tropical de categoría 5, y fue el más fuerte de la temporada de huracanes en el Océano Pacífico del año 2002. Dejo sentir su fuerza en las costas de Vallarta, con lluvias de gran intensidad y con vientos de hasta 225 km/h, provocando enormes olas de hasta 5 a 8 metros de altura, que azotaron gravemente el histórico Malecón, destruyendo y hasta llevándose parte de las icónicas esculturas de la ciudad, inclusive, los arcos y el símbolo mas emblemático de Vallarta: el caballito de mar.
