This blog post accompanies our Youtube video by the same title. These vlogs document our daily life here in Puerto Vallarta. For more information on great things to do in town, check out this post!
Today, we went snorkeling at Los Arcos, enjoyed the beach at Mismaloya, took a (glorious) nap, and explored the Malecon. Below we have detailed all of the information to easily explore and snorkel the Los Arcos rocks near Mismaloya! As always, if you have any questions or need any additional information, shoot us an email at [email protected].
20170715_104324
?How to Get There
Catch the orange bus that is just outside the Oxxo on the corner of Baslio Badillo and Constitucion. Ride the bus to Mismaloya, about a 20-30 minute ride depending on how many stops the bus makes along the way. Note: simply tell the bus driver as you are getting ON the bus that you would like to get off at Mismaloya. The stop is hard to miss as it is one of the more popular/busiest stops, but a heads up to the driver will ensure he/she will let you know when you are there.
?Finding a Snorkel Charter
As you exit the bus, walk down a winding road directly to the left of the big hotel, Barceló. Along that road, you will come across a dive shop on the left, Mismaloya Adventures. We have snorkeled with this company a few times and have been really happy. Note: you are able to customize your snorkeling/boating experience how you like. This is the bonus of booking a private trip vs. a shore excursion with other people. We requested one hour of boat time-30 minutes of snorkeling and 30 minutes of riding the boat around the rocks and along the shoreline.20170715_104234
?The Cost
The cost is negotiable. We paid $1,000 pesos (about $58 USD) for four people on the boat, only two snorkelers, and one hour of boat time total. We tipped $200 pesos at the end of our trip. The boat captain did a great job and made sure we all had a great time. The price may differ depending on demand, time of year, etc.
?The Beach at Mismaloya
After snorkeling and exploring the coastline, we highly recommend spending some time at the beach at Mismaloya. With no waves, the water is pristine and calm. There is only one hotel on the shoreline, so it is typically not as crowded as other beaches in town. There are a few restaurants for when you get hungry (or need a margarita). Note: There is a river flowing into the ocean which offers ice cold, fresh water. This is great for rinsing off salt water before heading home!20170715_105028
?Getting Back to Town
This part is a breeze. Simply walk back up the winding road you walked down to get to the beach, and cross the street. Directly across the street is a covered bus stop. Catch the orange bus that says “Centro, Mismaloya, Boca” back to the Oxxo where you started your snorkeling journey. Enjoy your day!

In today’s episode I go to two pharmacies in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to learn more about how prescription drugs work.
What Did I Learn?
I learned that you can buy A LOT of things over the counter in Mexico. Xanax, Viagra, Valium, steroids, and much more.
Now, some of those may be the generic brand of the drug, but the process to get them is still much easier than in the United States.
Here are the prices that I was able to write down:
Valium- 220 pesos, 12.54 USD
Xanax- 540 pesos, 30.79 USD
Cialus- 1500 pesos 85.53 USD
Claritan D 10 pack- 163 pesos, 9.29 USD
Sostenon- 420 pesos, 23.95 USD
Deca (1 month supply) – 681 pesos, 38.83 USD
So what can’t you buy from the pharmacies?
You can’t buy any sleeping pills or more serious pain killers. It was indicated that those are regulated pretty heavily, but I believe the process to go to the doctor to get a prescription is pretty simple and straightforward. Also, you can’t get any antibiotics over the counter. Those need a prescription as well.
In tomorrow’s vlog we are going to speak to a doctor and learn more about what the healthcare system is like in Mexico, how much it costs to see a doctor, and what wait times are like!
Here are the addresses of the two locations that I visited in the video:
Olas Altas 385, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal.
Basilio Badillo 216-2, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal.
The second address is to a store right next door.
Where is that restaurant that you showed in the bonus footage?

Flying through the jungle is one of the most exhilarating things one can do. The zip lines at Los Veranos Canopy Tour let you do just that! With 15 zip lines, some of which are over 1,000 feet long and 500 feet high, Los Veranos has perfectly designed an excursion to provide maximum fun.6 (21)
?Cost
For $67 for an adult ticket, we believe the price of the Los Veranos Canopy Tour is very reasonable. The price includes transportation to and from the course, zip lining and equipment, an animal encounter, kayaking, and even a tequila tasting.
?Getting There
They have several pick up locations located throughout the city. This makes it a convenient excursion no matter where you are staying. We walked to their office in Old Town and jumped in an air conditioned van that took us about 40 minutes south to the center. Although drive time isn’t exactly anyone’s idea of fun, you are driving with the ocean on one side and the rainforest on the other. It is a breathtaking drive the entire way!
?The Zip Lines
Los Veranos Canopy Tour has 15 zip lines that traverse through the jungle of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The first few zip lines are short and allow you to practice and get comfortable with the lines, along with how to zip line safely. As you progress through the course, the zip lines get longer and faster! Before you know it, you are racing down against your best friend just 30 feet above the Rio Cuale!3 (26)
?The Staff
As great as the zip line course is at Los Veranos, the staff is what makes the experience so incredible. They are extremely helpful, knowledgable, safe, and friendly! They make it an exciting and safe adventure for the adrenaline junkies (and also people like my mom that were scared to death!)
?After Zip Lining
After zip lining you will have about 45-60 minutes to eat lunch at their restaurant, play with monkeys, kayak, or swim in the river! They have a nice set up for these activities and they are all nicely covered in case of rain.
?Other Things to Know
?They have plenty of water stations (with cups) located along the course.
?There is some hiking/walking involved on this tour. It was perfectly fine for beginner level hikers, but good to note that there is some hiking (with stairs) involved. Note: There is an option to skip a few zip lines in order to skip the hike associated with those. Someone did that on our trip and it seemed to work out just fine–she was waiting for us a few lines later.
?They provide lockers for all of your belongings. We highly recommend taking along a small digital camera with a wrist strap (which you are allowed to carry on the actual zip lines) with you-the shots are incredible! They also have photographers and videographers on the tour with you. They sell a package with all of your photos and a video for $80USD.
?We believe Los Veranos Canopy Tour is one of the best excursions in Puerto Vallarta and definitely one of the top things to do in the area! The scenery, staff, and zip lining make all make Los Veranos a bucket list experience!
