Today we are lucky enough to be some of the few visitors that step foot on hidden beach at Islas Marietas! Islas Marietas is a set of islands in the Bahía de Banderas, just a few miles from Puerto Vallarta. These islands are home to dozens of species of wildlife, and an incredibly unique cratered beach that is only accessible by swimming. This is a perfect tour to do if you are visiting Puerto Vallarta!

Year-round great weather makes Puerto Vallarta a favorite holiday destination 365 days a year. Its location on the Pacific Coast and in the prolific Bay of Banderas also makes it one of the best sportfishing destinations in Mexico. Anything is possible when you’re fishing in Puerto Vallarta – from big Billfish offshore to dazzling fish in the bay.

It all depends on the type of trip you decide to take. In this video we’re highlighting our top three, and in this case – we couldn’t wait to save the best for last. Kicking things off is deep sea fishing in Puerto Vallarta. It’s what the majority of visiting anglers come for and once you hear the list of fish you can catch, you’ll know why.

Billfish including Blue, Black, and Striped Marlin, as well as Sailfish, sit at the top of bucket lists. Add Wahoo, plenty of Mahi Mahi, and a variety of Tuna to the mix and you can expect year-round action. On your way to deep sea fishing grounds, you can also stop by the nearshore reefs to hook into tasty Black and Red Grouper, alongside Cubera Snapper.

Don’t sleep on the inshore action, either. The Bay of Banderas is big and deep, meaning it brings in fish of all shapes and sizes. Targets including Roosterfish, Pacific Crevalle, Bonito, and even Mahi Mahi in the summer are all on the table. These fish can be hooked using traditional spinning gear or you can try your hand at fly fishing.

The popularity of fly fishing in Puerto Vallarta is growing year in and year out, rounding out the fishing on offer here. Just make you’re bringing your own fly gear with you as most captains won’t provide it.
